The Family:  Bio's

bios/andy.JPG

Andy

“Big Brother” and the eldest child and only son of Carl Lyons.
He is also known to the extended family as “Houdini” for his seemingly impossible adaptation of a tee sheet accommodating all golfers during modified shotgun scramble events.

Andy is the teaching professional here at the Lyons Den Golf.  He is your primary contact for lessons, league play, membership, outings, and clinics.

As a former university level golfer at Malone he ascended to All-American status his junior and senior year. He was subsequently inducted into Malone’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004 for his athletic accomplishments as well as his contributions to the game of golf and the Malone university golf program over the years.

After a short stint traveling the country golfing professionally he returned home to settle down and start his own family.   His wife Susan and eleven-year-old son Jared complete his family.

You can contact him at  Calyonspro@aol.com

Carl

“Dad”.  Son of the late founder William E. “old Bill” Lyons.  He is also the father to both Andy and Heidi.

After decades in the trenches here at the Den Carl has found himself in recent years enjoying the pleasantries of retirement.  The rock free fairways you play on and the original Irrigation lines that kept your fairways green in the heart of the summer (before the automated system installation in 2011) were both picked and dug by his hand.  How’s that for commitment?

Although still an active part of things when it comes to the flowers planted around the property, the irrigation lines being located, or the carts being cleaned to a polished shine, he rather enjoys the opportunity to finally set his own schedule.

He has primarily found joy these days in following the athletic endeavors of all four of his beautiful grandchildren.  Not to mention spoiling them with the occasional grandpa gift.

Come by the den sometime, ask for Carl, and listen to him tell some of his tales from the past.

Heidi

“Little Sis”.  The youngest child and only daughter of Carl.

Heidi is a part time employee and full time mom dividing her time between working the grounds on the course and coaching the kids in nearly everything available.  She is a Northwest graduate, Kent State Alum. who is actively involved in her church and local community.

One of her most impressive accomplishments over the course of 2010 was the completion of the 3-day sixty mile Susan G. Komen “walk for the cure” breast cancer walk.  Throughout this process she helped raise over $15,000 via a host of fundraiser’s culminating in a very emotional Lyons Den Golf outing June 13th 2010 established specifically for two of our own valiantly fighting the fight against breast cancer.

Completing Heidi’s family are Husband Ronnie, Daughters Jordan (16), Jensen (15), and Son Tate (12).

You can contact her at rhmiller24@att.net

Ron

"Ronnie"  "the Butcher"  "Ronald".  Husband to Heidi.

Ron is the newest member of our Lyons Den Golf family having left his job of 20 years as a meat cutter with Giant Eagle (2006 - 2012) and Franklin Sparkle Market (1990 - 2006).  He came on staff here February 2012 where he had previously filled in on a part time basis for more than a decade.

He has quickly begun wrapping his hands around all things Lyons Den Golf, adapting his acquired skills in meat department management to the dynamic environment of public golf.

Ron is a graduate of Manchester High School.  He attended Akron University after high school for a couple years studying Business and Accounting and looks forward to the chance to return soon and finish his bachelors in both areas of study.  He is also a devout fan of both the Michigan Wolverines and the Pittsburgh Steelers making him a bit of a "lone wolf" around the clubhouse during football season.  I wouldn't feel to bad for him though as he has managed to find himself several like minded sports fans amongst the part time staff here at "the Den").

He enjoys spending his off time completing his role as husband to Heidi and father to Jordan, Jensen, and Tate.

You can contact him at rhmiller24@att.net

Paul

“Storzie” “Old Dog” or “Groundhog”

Paul doubles at the Lyons Den as both the cart/vehicle mechanic and assistant superintendent.  Suffice to say he pretty much does it all.  As the longest standing member of the extended Lyons Den Golf family (over 30 years) he has, not only a tremendous amount of necessary historical knowledge, but also many years of hands-on experience.  Paul interned under founder (former Firestone C.C. superintendent) William E. “Old Bill Lyons while teaching Science full-time at the Northwest Middle School.  Upon retiring he came on full time at “the Den” expanding his turfgrass role and taking on the head mechanic position.

Paul is a Fairless high school grad and Ohio University Alum.  He is also one of a limited number of stark county graduates to ever go on and play in a D1 athletic program.

Today he enjoys hunting (in season) and fishing the ponds of the Lyons Den regularly at the end of a long days work.

Completing Paul’s family are wife Bev, daughters Karen and Sarah, son Jeff and three beautiful infant grandchildren.
